Keys to Successful Website Flipping

Website flipping is very different than domain flipping.

The most important different is that with website flipping you already have a website. That is, your domain name points to an actual website with one or more pages.

So, with website flipping you are buying an existing website and then selling that webisite. Between the buying and selling your need to work to add value to make the selling price higher than the purchase prince.

  • Good Domain Name A good domain name for a typical site consists of the keyword phrase that describes the major topic of the site. A site dedicated to “running shoes” should have “runningshoes” as part of their domain name. Common prefixes such as “my”, “e”, “i” detract from the ranking value of the domain name. Hyphens also have a negative effect on ranking. While raning in the top ten of Google is possible, it is more difficult with prefixes and hyphens.Domains that are easiest to rank in the top ten of Google have .com, .org. or .net extensions. Other extensions will require more effort to rank well.
  • Domain Age This is the number of years the site has been in existence. This does not include the time the domain was parked without a website. Older websites often rank better than younger websites.
  • Diversity of Income Some websites are designed and built for the purpose of displaying AdSense ads. While some people make a good income with AdSense, it is not the optimal way to monitize a site.A site with multiple income sources provides a more secure income source than a site that depends on a signle income source.
  • First Page of Google A site that ranks well in the search engines for relevant keyword phrases is more valuable than a site that does not. High ranking for relevant keyword phrases means that more targeted traffic will come to the site. And, more targeted traffic means more income for the owner.A top ten ranking for various keyword phrases is not enough. The keyword phrases must be relevant to the site. This brings in targed traffic.
  • Targeted Traffic Targeted traffic can come primarily from search engines for revelant keyword phrases, from pay per click (PPC) ads like AdWords, and from other sites linking to your site. Of course the best traffic is free.

Increase Website Value

Your job, of course, will be to increase the value of the website. This primarily means to increase its cash flow so it earns more money. And, this often means your primary efforts will be in improved search engine ranking for relevant terms.

When evaluating a website, you need to determine if there are reasons why the site is not performing well. Then, you need to determine if you can make some small changes to get the site performing at top efficiency.

This is exactly like buying a house that needs some minor repairs to dramatically increase its value.

You’ll be looking for websites that need some “fixin” so they can perform at optimum effectiveness. Once you have found such a site, buy it, fix it up and sell it. Now, that’s website flipping at its best!
